YAY! I'm finished!

After much obsessing and worrying, my reunion outfit is complete. Today I had one of my more successful lunchtime shopping adventures, resulting in a few key purchases.

First, the shoes:

These fit the bill for me. They aren't too dressy, which allows me to go a little over-the-top with my jewelry. I like that the wedge is thin, but high enough to make my legs look longer. On sale at Aldo.

Then the jewelry:

I love the bling of this American Eagle necklace, and I also love how it's slightly edgy.

The colors in this AE bracelet are a great compliment to the muted tones of the dress.

I also found a fab pair of hoop earrings, haven't found a photo yet but will hopefully post one soon.

Here is my overall look:

Okay, NOW I'm excited for the trip!

Desperately Seeking Shoes

OK, so the high school reunion dress conundrum has been solved.

However...

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: buying begets buying. I now have the perfect dress and am in need (desperate need!) of shoes! Ugh, will it ever end?!

So here is my dress:

On the BCBG website, they have it styled with pewter platforms, which I am loving. I could also see this dress paired with an ivory shoe or a tan shoe.

Finding those shoes on short short short notice has not been easy! I'll be shopping today on my lunch hour and using Endless.com overnight shipping as a last resort. Here is what I've come up with:

These will take the dress up a notch. I don't know if I want to go this dress though.

Here is another option in the same vein.

These wedges add a chic relaxed touch.

How cute are these?

So my other conundrum is jewelry! One day left before our flight and I'm freaking out just a tad!

Friday I'm In Love

Nothing can cure this week like shoes...well maybe a margarita but shoes will certainly help! I'm going to do a little weekend shopping tomorrow so hopefully I'll get in some J Crew time...husband will be in tow so who knows? His patience for shopping is not like mine.

Also, tomorrow night I'll be headed to the L.A. Street Food Festival! Unlimited food, beer, and signature cocktails? Yes please! I'll be taking plenty of photos so I'll have those on Sunday.

So in the meantime, enjoy some gorgeous shoes and have a great weekend!

What a day...

What a day, what a day.

I am currently still looking for an assistant. I have been scheduling 4 to 5 interviews per day. It's very exhausting work, let me tell ya! Anyway, of my four people scheduled today, the two scheduled before lunch were no-shows. No call, no e-mail, no show. It's disappointing after putting in so much work to comb resumes, conduct pre-screen phone interviews, and schedule people.

Anyway, by lunchtime I was frustrated to say the least. So I headed to the fashion paradise that is Americana at Brand. How lucky am I that I'm close enough to go here at lunch? It's relaxing and breaks up the day for me. Of course, I headed over to J Crew. I really wanted to look for a dress for my husband's high school reunion (online purchases did not pan out in the least!) but of course I ended up browsing the sale racks.

I did walk away with the Fleurette Pencil Skirt for $21 and then buckled and bought the Jackie in Burnished Olive (I've been looking for that sweater in my size forever!). The sale racks here were pretty picked over but I'll head to my other B&M this weekend to take an in-depth gander at the new arrivals!

Oh yeah, and to find a dress for the reunion...hmph.

If any of you out there have some suggestions, I am all for them! FYI the reunion is taking place at a beach resort in Florida and is considered "dressy casual". No cocktail dresses, much to my chagrin! Rules are: no shorts, no jeans, no jackets, no ties...which is not helpful to us girls at all.

Here's what I bought that did not work out:

I'm bummed! Anyway, I'll be doing some seriously scrambling this weekend so hopefully I'll come up with something.

Return of the classics!

I received the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar in the mail yesterday with a gorgeous and glowing Cameron Diaz on the cover. What was even more exciting to me was the gregarious amount of neutrals and classics inside. Goodbye neons, hello greys! Don't get me wrong, I love color but the return of camels and browns is a sight for sore eyes.

Then I thumbed through and saw spread after spread of basic, classic pieces. Chambray shirts, camel coats, cigarette pants. Yes! Yes! Yes! Classic shapes like wideleg pants paired with feminine blouses. 80s power suits are headed out as designers return to form and dress women like...women!

In honor of the upcoming fall clothing season (which us Angelenos will probably be able to begin wearing in February due to weather constraints), this week is all about the classics. Today, I'm thinking about the perfect trench coat. Classic, lightweight, forever chic!

Here are my favorite trenches:

This Jessica Simpson trench is under $100, comes in taupe and black, and features a tried-and-true shape.

This pink is one of my favorite colors. I'd go neutral with the rest of the outfit, I swear!

You know I love classic with a twist!

A London Fog version in red, black, or khaki. Love the epaulets!

This trench features a hood.

Keep it short and sweet with this Free People jacket.

The faux fur trim give this military flare. At just around $100, how can you say no?

Friday I'm In Love!

Another Friday, wow this week flew by! It's been crazy hectic and I think next week will be more of the same. Today was my assistant's last day and I have 7 interviews scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully things will calm down soon!

Here is some Friday shoe eye-candy for you. This week I'm dreaming of snake embossed shoes! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Really...wait...really?

I don't really shop at Urban Outfitters for clothes. Housewares? Sometimes. Gifts? Always. But clothes...mmm not really. Number one, I'm not a teenager or an early-twentysomething.

But I was shopping at UO online this morning for a jewelry organizer to hang on the wall. Right now my jewelry is spread all over my dresser and, according to my dear, sweet husband, is starting to look "hoarder-ish". lol We're fans of the show Hoarders, what can I say?

So I found the perfect organizer, of course it's backordered but I'm ordering it anyway. Then I started thinking, well I'm paying shipping anyway, why not browse the clearance and see if I can get any bargains.

Oh em gee. Is Urban Outfitters' jewelry FAB or what?! They seemed to have inexpensive versions of all of the jewelry I've been coveting from J Crew, Anthropologie, Kenneth Jay Lane, etc. The pieces are gorgeous and the prices are crazy low! So the beads are plastic and the gold is fake - who cares? At $9.99, $14.99, even $6.99, I'll accept it!

Check out these lovelies:

$9.99

30" length! $14.99

Also available in turquoise: $9.99

$6.99!

Ring also in pink: $6.99

Also in silver: $6.99

If I wasn't afraid that I'm becoming a jewelry hoarder, I'd probably buy it all. Maybe I need two organizers?

AHHH A break from the madness

Today has been great, much calmer than the last two days...or maybe I'm just in denial!

As I may have mentioned before, my part time assistant gave her notice and this Friday is her last day. My boss has graciously granted my request for a full time assistant and the flood of resumes has been overwhelming to say the least - at least 400 resumes since Friday morning. So, needless to say, my eyes are crossed from reading so many!

But yesterday I narrowed the field to about 50 and today I start making phone calls. I'm allowing myself a little reprieve this morning, however, because something amazing has happened.

Summer has come to L.A.

Yesterday I believe we had triple digits here and now my thoughts are turning to the summer wardrobe I should have had already put together but just couldn't be motivated to work on...I mean, it did rain on Saturday...in L.A....in July. How can that motivate? Also, here is So-Cal we tend to have our summer run from mid July through October...and sometimes extending into Thanksgiving. Try cooking a turkey in 90 degree weather. Not fun.

So the weather has finally heated up...and I am starting to see all of the holes in my wardrobe. No espadrilles, no casual work-appropriate skirts (minus a denim pencil skirt), no summer pants.

I know, what a problem right?

So I've been looking around for the perfect pieces and here's what I've come up with:

I love this skirt because it's simple and classic...and $25!

Silk with printed cards around the hem - so cute!

This skirt reminds me of 1950s souvenir skirts.

I love this ivory Generra skirt. Pleating, pockets, and crisp cotton.

Another easy to wear staple from Banana Republic. I love this in the slate blue color.

For summer pants, I am looking for something lightweight and in a breathable fabric. Here are some of my favorites:

Alloy skinny cargos, similar to the coveted J Brand pair. Only $40

Summer ease makes me feel fine! Lucky Brand linen pull-on pants. Gorgeous!

Lightweight, pockets, fabulous. Also $40 and today is the last day for extra 20% off!

And who doesn't love seersucker in the summer? Beautiful!

Happy shopping! For sure I'm getting those skinny cargos!
